Cialis (Tadalafil)
Tadalafil (Cialis) is an oral drug for male impotence, also known as erectile dysfunction (ED). Tadalafil works by dilating blood vessels in the penis, allowing the inflow of blood needed for an erection.
Special patient directions come with Tadalafil. Read the directions carefully before you start using Tadalafil and each time you get a refill of your medicine. Tadalafil relaxes muscles and increases blood flow to particular areas of the body.
Use Tadalafil exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not use more of Cialis and do not use Tadalafil more often than your doctor ordered. If too much is used, the chance of side effects or other problems is increased.
Tadalafil Dosage
The dose of Tadalafil will be different for different patients. Follow your doctors orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of Cialis. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.
For treatment of erectile dysfunction (as needed):
Adults — 10 milligrams (mg) of Tadalafil as a single dose, no more than once a day, taken 30 minutes before you think sexual activity may occur. Your doctor may change your dose if needed.
For treatment of erectile dysfunction (daily use):
Adults — 2.5 milligrams (mg) of Cialis once a day, taken at the same time each day, without regard for the timing of sexual activity. Your doctor may increase your dose if needed.
For treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension:
Adults — 40 milligrams (mg) of Tadalafil once a day.
Children — Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.
If you miss a dose of Tadalafil
Since Tadalafil is used as needed, you are not likely to be on a dosing schedule.
If you take Tadalafil every day and you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to take the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Storage — How to store Tadalafil
- Keep Tadalafil out of the reach of children.
- Do not store Tadalafil in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink, or in other damp places. Heat or moisture may cause Cialis to break down.
- Keep Tadalafil from freezing. Do not refrigerate.
- Do not keep outdated Tadalafil or Cialis no longer needed. Ask your health care professional how you should dispose of any medicine you do not use. Be sure that any discarded medicine is out of the reach of children.
