Proviron (Mesterolone)
Mesterolone (Proviron) is a derivative of the hormone Testosterone. Mesterolone is given when natural testosterone levels are too low. This occurs following castration, or may be due to decreased functioning of the testicles (hypogonadism or eunuchoidism). This can be caused by testicular disease or a deficiency in gonadotrophin production by the pituitary gland. Mesterolone therefore allows the return of normal sexual functioning, and is useful in the treatment of infertility caused by low testosterone levels.
Take Mesterolone only as directed. Do not take more of Proviron and do not take it more often than your doctor ordered. To do so may increase the chance of Proviron side effects.
In order for Mesterolone to work properly, it is important that you follow a diet high in proteins and calories. If you have any questions about this, check with your health care professional.
Mesterolone Dosage
The dose of Proviron will be different for different patients. Follow your doctors orders or the directions on the Mesterolone label. The following information includes only the average doses of Proviron. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.
If you miss a dose of Mesterolone
If you miss a dose of Mesterolone and your dosing schedule is:
One dose a day — Take the missed Proviron dose as soon as possible. However, if you do not remember it until the next day, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.
More than one dose a day — Take the missed Mesterolone dose as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

Storage — Hot to store Mesterolone
- Keep Proviron out of the reach of children.
- Store Mesterolone away from heat and direct light.
- Do not store Proviron in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink, or in other damp places. Heat or moisture may cause Mesterolone to break down.
- Do not keep outdated Mesterolone or medicine no longer needed. Be sure that any discarded Proviron is out of the reach of children.
Side effects of Mesterolone
Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with Mesterolone. Because a Mesterolone side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible if you do not feel well while you are taking Proviron.
Also tell your doctor if you notice any of the following Proviron side effects:
Headache; pain in liver area; symptoms of an enlarged prostate such as changes in urination, or blood in the urine or ejaculate; pain in lower back or abdomen; pain in pelvic area; loss of appetite; unexplained weight loss; depression; aggression; acne; hirsutism.
If frequent or persistent erections occur, the doctor may reduce the dose or discontinue treatment in order to avoid injury to the penis.
Other side effects not listed above may also occur in some patients. Tell your doctor if you notice anything else that is making you feel unwell.
